Knott’s Boysenberry Festival April 1st-23rd!

Knott’s Boysenberry Festival

By Erin

It’s almost Boysenberry time! This unique berry is a cross between a loganberry, a red raspberry and a blackberry. Did you know Knott’s Berry Farm was at one time a berry farm established by Walter Knott and his family? Knott was the first to commercially cultivate the boysenberry in Southern California after transplanting the berry’s vines from the former Boysenberry farm. Mrs. Knott began making preserves, which made Knott’s Berry Farm famous. The popular purple little boysenberry put Knott’s Berry Farm on the road to being America’s first theme park. As the birthplace of the delectable boysenberry, Knott’s Berry Farm once again showcases the little berry that started it all with a spectacular 23-day food and beverage celebration.

This year, the festival is over three weeks (April 1–April 23) featuring over 70 boysenberry inspired dishes, drinks and more. During these 23 days everyone can indulge in succulent eats and enjoy live entertainment, new shows, pie eating contests, meet the Easter Beagle and PEANUTS gang, make new friends at the new Old MacDonald petting zoo, mingle with the Ghost Town townsfolk, line dance, and join the nighttime dance party. Of course there is all the usual fun too because entrance to the Boysenberry festival is included with park admission. (Additional cost for tastings of food and drink).

There are so many boysenberry inspired food and drinks to choose from throughout Ghost Town that are both sweet and savory. Items include ribs, meatballs, chicken wings, BBQ dishes flavored with Knott’s very own Boysenberry BBQ Sauce, boysenberry cream soda, chocolate covered Boysenberry cheesecake, Boysenberry ICEE Floats, Boysenberry Latte, and the now super famous Fun Bun! The Fun Bun is a crowd favorite with its warm, sweet, gooey deliciousness. If you have not heard of the Fun Bun yet; it is a cinnamon roll, boysenberry and funnel cake rolled into one delicious bun of fun. New this year is the boysenberry pizza, boysenberry ravioli, and boysenberry fry bread! There is so much to enjoy, you will have to come back more than once to enjoy it all! 😉

Now, ready to get a sneak peek of all the Boysenberry goodness of some of my favorite picks? Here you go!

DoorDash Now Delivers Booze in SoCal!

By Erin

*Disclaimer: This is a sponsored post by DoorDash. All thoughts and opinions remain my own.*

Did you know? DoorDash is now delivering booze in Southern California and is expanding to other cities quickly. DoorDash is working with popular restaurants and breweries in town to let you order beer, wine and other spirits right along with your meals. How awesome is that?

door-dash-3

If you have not heard of the DoorDash app yet, you have been missing out! It allows you to order from a wide variety of restaurants, from your favorite fast casual place to the trendy new hot spot down the street. The real treat is that  now you can order alcohol too. Perfect right!? Date night? Girls Night? Long day at work and you just don’t feel like cooking or want a drink without having to go anywhere? Then DoorDash is your answer. My favorite part is that DoorDash delivers booze.

With a growing list of over 100 partners in SoCal – including premium bottle shops, restaurants with unbelievable selection, your standard liquor stores, and your mom and pop Thai restaurants. It’s an affordable convenience delivered right to your doorstep in under 60 minutes. You can also order ahead of time at your prefered time of delivery, which is what I did.

If you’re like me and need things to be as convenient and easy as possible, then you will want to check out this amazing service. Due to my super busy schedule, I needed to put in my dinner order for later when I’d get home. I knew I’d be starving and ready to eat and have a nice cold beer, not wanting to just then be putting in my order and having to wait any longer.

12:30pm  On my lunch break I opened the DoorDash site and selected my restaurant of choice. We decided to order from a Korean BBQ place, called Sura Korean BBQ & Tofu House.  I put in my special promo code (that you are all welcome to use too!) HORSINGAROUND for $7 off my order of $20 or more. It was easy as pie. I set in our delivery time for 5:30-6:00pm.

5:00pm I got home and checked the site to check in on my order. It said it was en route and even told me the drivers name and that they should be there by 5:45pm.

5:15 pm The doorbell rang. Our food and drink was here already! Just make sure to have your ID handy to show your dasher if you ordered booze, so they can verify that you are over 21 years of age. 😉

5:30pm Took a few photos (of course) then enjoyed some yummy food and delicious drinks. Without any of the waiting, cooking or cleaning! Such a nice change of pace from the usual.

The Mercado Project is Northgate Supermarket’s new shopping concept where the customer experiences a “mercado feel” throughout the store.  Northgate has recreated the individualized Mariscos stall, The Carniceria, Floreria, Lecheria, Panaderia and Coffee Shop for shoppers to enjoy, reminisce or experience for the first time. This was my first time to experience and enjoy this new mercado feel and I loved it. I was absolutely amazed at everything there was to choose from. I was like a kid in a candy store at this place, except on a much larger scale, and there was much more to choose from than just candy! Let me give you a little preview of what you have to look forward to when you get the chance to stop by for yourself… Be warned though… once you come here, you will be coming back often for more tasty treats! 😉

On our tour of Northgate Market, here were some of the highlights.

1.When you first walk into the store, one of the first things you will see is a fresh guacamole bar, where a woman is custom making guacamole just for you.

3. Grab & Go: A large selection of freshly made items for when you’re in a hurry and need something quick. Items change daily and are always made fresh! Salads, Tamales, Sushi, Ceviche, brightly colored glelatinas, arroz con leche and other tasty delights can be found here.

4. An Empanada Bar- Lots of different flavors of empanadas where a native Argentinian is making them fresh in house.
