Wordless Wednesday: Meet Parker!

Wordless Wednesday: Meet Parker!

By Erin

There’s a gorgeous new horse at the barn. We don’t know much about him, but he sure is a sweet, kind-hearted guy. From what we can gather, he’s about 8-9 years old and a Quarter Horse (NOT a Thoroughbred!), but that’s about it. We have no clue what his registered name is or what his racing history is as we cannot figure out what his tattoo that all racing horses have, is. Hours have been spent trying to figure it out to no avail. He has been named Parker. You will also notice that he is a GREY horse and not a BAY (brown with a black mane and tail), like most of the horses that get taken in are. 😉 This boy isn’t up for adoption yet, so he will be here for a little while longer. For some that are up for adoption, check out Equine Racers, which is the 501C3 Registered Non Profit Horse Rescue Organization I help out at with my friend Sarah who runs it, and that most of these horses I post about are from. I hope you enjoy this mysterious beast as much as I have so far! 🙂

Superchupacabra “Chup”–An Ex-Race Horse

Superchupacabra “Chup”

By Erin

Sarah & ChupSarah Parlier, friend and owner of Equine Racers which is a 501c3 non profit as of February 2014, pictured riding Chup when he was still a racehorse at Los Alamitos Racetrack.

I wanted to start showcasing some of the horses at the barn, and share a little bit about them. From their careers on the track, to what exactly brought them to Equine Racers, and where life takes them after their stay with us at the barn with Equine Racers. I thought I’d start off with this handsome boy, Superchupacabra. Try saying that one fast! It kind of reminds me of Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious from Mary Poppins, but not quite as long.

Superchupacabra, otherwise known as, Chup is a 2009 Thoroughbred gelding. He was unplaced in 7 starts with earnings of $2,480. Chup retired sound and was purchased directly from the racing owner. Chup’s easy going attitude at such a young age made him easily placed with a sweet girl as a trail horse in Ventura.

Recently as of Dec 2014, Chup was returned to Equine Racers due to a lack of time from the owner and he is now being trained as a Hunter Jumper. Chup’s easy way of going makes him one of the most versatile horses we’ve had the pleasure to work with.  Take a look at him in action! Enjoy this special beast!

He’s such a beautiful little mover.

He really does like to show off in the turn out.

American Style

American Style

By Erin

There’s a new horse at the barn, and he’s a pretty special guy. Narrowly escaping death as the decision to put him down had been made for the next day as there was no solid interest in him, due to him needing an expensive surgery ($3850) to fix a right hind fractured fetlock followed by 5 months of layup. Luckily for this special guy, American Style, The Dolly Green Foundation donated funds for his surgery and After the Finish Line will be funding his lay up cost for 5 months! He is now with us at Equine Racers for his layup and aftercare from his surgery and for re-training to find a forever home once he’s cleared to start work again. Isn’t he a doll? Just look at that face!

American Style

American Style is a 2011 Thoroughbred Gelding standing at 16.3 hands high. He was unplaced in 4 starts during his racing career. This incredibly well bred son of Papa Clem out of a Swiss Yodeler mare has major sporthorse and class breeding. American Style retired from racing due to a right hind fractured fetlock. He is looking to start another career as a dressage or as a hunter/jumper horse once he is sound again, hopefully this summer. His prognosis is very good for a full recovery after his surgery.

This boy is such a sweetheart. Extra money is still needed though for his routine vet care, farrier, and extra feed for him! If you would like to donate you may via PayPal to equineracers@aol.com subject American Style, all donations are tax deductible!

American StyleMy first visit with American Style. He was so curious, he couldn’t stand still long enough for me to get a clear shot of him! He wanted to leave his stall to go check out everything. Silly guy, but oh so sweet!
