Summertime with the Horses and an American Style Update

Summertime with the Horses and an American Style Update

By Erin

One reason I love the summer so much, is because it means I can spend more time at the barn with the horses. It’s also been awhile since I’ve been able to give an update on all the boys, so I thought I’d take a minute and let you all know how everyone is doing. 🙂

If you remember American Style, from back in February, he had retired from racing with a left hind Condylar fracture, and had surgery performed on January 23rd, 2015. He has recovered nicely and is ready to start-up training to become a riding horse.

Styles 1st ride!

Styles did amazing on his first ride with Sarah! He doesn’t steer very well yet, but that’s to be expected with such a green horse with no training yet. He stood so still while Sarah mounted to get on him, and he looks like he flexes and bends well. It will be exciting to watch him as he starts to learn to jump. He has started to go over ground-poles so far!

Horsing Around at the Barn #Horses

Horsing Around at the Barn

By Erin

This week, I thought I’d give a little update on all the horses. The boys are all doing well, especially Chup with his training as a jumper! Come join us at the barn and see how Big, Blaze, Brady, Style and Chup like to ‘Horse Around!’ 😉

Styles

American Style– Aka Styles, is still in rehab and confined to his stall from his surgery back in late January. He no longer has his leg all wrapped up though. He’s doing well, but still has a long way to go. He’s happy, but he sure can be a monster! I’m sure he can’t wait to be able to get out and run and play around like the other boys do again!

Blazing-Horses

Blaze is a sweet boy. He loves hanging out in the turn out and going on short rides with me. 🙂 I think he also likes posing for the camera!

Good-Luck Redd

Good-Luck Redd

By Erin

Good-Luck-Redd-Lucky

In honor of St. Patrick’s Day, I wanted to share with you about a special little horse named Good-Luck Redd, and lucky he is indeed! Good Luck Redd, aka Redd, was foaled on April 14th, 2009 by Redattore (BRZ) x Good Lady Luck.  He is a Thoroughbred gelding, standing at 16.1 hands, that was retired in 2012 with 8 starts, 1 second, and an earnings of $1,154. He was rescued not that long ago from a private party underweight with dermatitis. Poor guy! Lucky for him, he fell into the hands of the right people that would be able to take care of him and nurse him back to health.

Poor-Redd

Redd was found at a local boarding stable via a friend’s vet, being several hundred pounds underweight and had a severe case of derminitis under his belly.

After a couple months, Redd was surrendered and started his rehab.
