Today is the big day! Guardians of the Galaxy has blasted off into the galaxy for all to see. I’ll have to forewarn you though. I’m no expert by any means when it comes to comics and I have never read any of the comics for Guardians of the Galaxy. Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy” first appeared in comic books in Marvel Super-Heroes, Issue #18 (Jan. 1969) and was created by Arnold Drake and Gene Colan. I came into this movie completely blind and not knowing what to expect. That said, if you are coming in it blindly like I am sure you will be just as blown away by it as I was. Even if you are a huge comic book buff, I hope you enjoy it just as much. It has the perfect mix riding the lines between an epic action packed space adventure, silliness, super bad-bad guys with just a tad of romance, and an excellent sound track to boot! It is a very fun movie, bound to be the blockbuster hit of the summer. It’s exactly what a comic book movie should be, or what I would think it should be.
In a nutshell, Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy” starts out with our hero, a brash adventurer named Peter Quill (aka Star-Lord) who finds himself in the middle of an unrelenting bounty hunt after he stole a mysterious orb that the evil villain, Ronan, so desperately wants as he has ambitions that threaten the well being of the entire universe. Peter ends up in a unusual group of misfits that he has to learn to trust if they want to help save the universe. Joining him is Rocket, a gun-toting raccoon, Groot, a tree-like figure with a very limited vocabulary, the very deadly Gamora, and Drax the Destroyer who is out for revenge. When the power of the orb is revealed to them, they must do their best to rally together with the galaxy’s fate in their hands.
Highlights to like about the film:
1) The Cast
With an all-star cast that is extremely likable and funny, what is there not to like about this film? Chris Pratt as Peter Quill is an amazing fit, as Chris makes for one really fun, comedic and engaging character as Peter. Zoe Saldanaas Gamoramakes for one beautiful and powerful villain fighting machine. Dave Batista as Drax who may bea large and scary looking being, but he sure had the comic timing down to a T. Vin Diesel as Groot, a large lifelike tree figure doesn’t say much, but his lines are timed perfectly at just the right moments. Then you have Bradley Cooper as Rocket the Racoon who also fits into the storyline perfectly with his bad self and sarcastic and witty remarks. You will find yourself laughing throughout the film at this dream team.
*I attended as a guest of Disney and am very grateful for the opportunity to do so.*
It has happened. This past week I attended my first red carpet event. Living in Southern California, not too far away from where all the action takes place in Hollywood, it is pretty commonplace to drive down Hollywood Boulevard and see another World Premiere getting ready to happen. I’m not a starstuck kind of girl, and I don’t get all freaked out and crazy like some do when there is a movie star sighting. Don’t get me wrong, I think they are super exciting, even more so now that I have actually been to one, but I am pretty grounded, so actually going to a red carpet world premiere event for a movie always seemed so far fetched and unattainable to me. Me attending the World Premiere as a guest for any movie, let alone a big production like Guardians of the Galaxy; and not just there in attendance as a fan on the other side of the fence? Yeah right. I must be dreaming. But nope. It actually happened and here’s the evidence! 😉
Marvel fans lined the streets of Hollywood Boulevard on this warm summers evening. The red carpet was rolled out for some of the biggest stars in Hollywood for the World Premiere of the Marvel film, Guardians of the Galaxy.
We watched from just feet away on the same red carpet as the stars as they walked by and were mingling with one another and being interviewed by various reporters. It was a lot to take in at once and I wanted to enjoy every second of the experience and catch whatever special moments that I could.
Director James Gunn with Wyatt Oleff, the young Petter Quill aka Star-Lord in the film. Sharing a very precious moment together on the red carpet.
Bradley Cooper walking down the red carpet, taking selfies with everyone who had a cell phone and signing autographs.
From the makers of global blockbusters; Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, and The Avengers, Marvel is bringing in a new team to town to save the day–the Guardians of the Galaxy. An action-packed, epic space adventure that is sure to marvel audiences everywhere. With stars such as Chris Pratt, Vin Diesel, and Zoe Saldana it was a no brainer to attend the junket and learn more about all the fun and hard work that went into making this film. Disney and Marvel hosted the press junket for Guardians of the Galaxy. Director James Gunn and actors Chris Pratt (Star-Lord), Zoe Saldana (Gamora), Dave Bautista (Drax), Vin Diesel (Groot), Benicio del Toro (The Collector), and Michael Rooker (Yondu), answered our burning questions.
How do I look as one of the Guardians of the Galaxy? Maybe a new character in the sequel? 😉 Before the interview with the cast, this fun photo op was available. I couldn’t resist.
The cast from Guardians of the Galaxy ready to answer everyones questions. Here are some interesting tidbits I thought you’d all enjoy from this very entertaining interview with the cast!
