Mimi’s Power of Pink: Rooted in Hope + 2 $25 Gift Certificates Giveaway

Photobucket

As I am sure everyone is well aware of by now, that October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Mimi’s Cafe and the National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) are teaming up this month to create and spread awareness for breast cancer. This past Monday, on October 1st, I was honored to partake in the kickoff of this years campaign at a pink ribbon tying ceremony at Mimi’s Cafe. Most of us know someone who has been affected by this terrible disease: whether it be a mother, sister, wife, cousin, aunt, friend, or perhaps you yourself are a survivor or are currently fighting breast cancer. I am teaming up with Mimi’s Cafe to help kickoff and support their Power of Pink campaign.

Every Mimi’s Cafe across the nation had their pink ribbon tying ceremony at the exact same time.

Toast to Mimi’s Power of Pink campaign.

Mimi’s introduces two new drinks during the month of October – Sparkling Pink Passion Mimosa and Pink Passion Sparkler. I got to try these out, and boy are they delicious! I love anything with passion fruit in it, so these drinks did not dissapoint. It also makes me feel good knowing that a portion of the proceeds from these drinks will be donated to the National Breast Cancer Foundation.

Ribbon Tying of the PINK ribbon on the Giving Tree of Life.

Here’s what’s happening at Mimi’s Cafe during the month of October and what YOU can do to help:

Each Mimi’s Cafe will have a Giving Tree like the one seen above. Guests who donate $1 dollar will get to place a leaf on the tree with their name and recieve coupons to use on their next visit. There are some awesome deals with these coupons, such as buy one lunch or dinner entree and get one free and a $10 off $30 coupon. That’s a pretty nice deal if you ask me! Guests who donate $5 will also receive a pink ribbon pin (see below as I could not resist donanting to such an amazing organization). Guests not able to visit a Mimi’s Cafe can donate via an online donation and will be able to place a digital leaf on the digital Giving Tree. Guests can also purchase the two drinks mentioned above as a portion of the proceeds from those drinks will also be donated to the National Breast Cancer Foundation.

Horsing Around with Horse Fashions

Living in Southern California and riding at a lot of show barns, horse fashion is a huge thing. Even if you just ride for fun, making your horse (as well as yourself) look fashionable to reflect your personality is an enjoyable experience. From blinging up belts, saddle pads and stirrups; to vibrant, colorful polo wraps, halters, fly masks, and blankets, there is always some new fashionable item out there to entice riders and horse owners with. Here’s a  blinged up saddle pad I’d love to have as it kind of goes with my color scheme for Horsing Around In LA. Diamond Saddle Pad If anyone wants to get that for me for Christmas, I wouldn’t complain. 😉

As long as I can remember, all I’ve wanted was a horse of my own. Ever since I was a young child in elementary school I remember saving up every penny I earned so I could afford to buy all the supplies to take care of my imaginary horse with. I would spend HOURS upon HOURS looking through the catalogs that the online tack stores would mail out figuring out which items I would like to purchase. I cut out all of the items in the catalog that were on my wish list. Then I dug out of the garage an old Vans shoe box and glued on all my horsey dreams onto the outside of said box. Any extra money I earned from chores, good grades from my report card, birthdays, Christmas, went into this box to go towards my purchase of the items now plastered all over this box.

Fast forward about 21 years and here we are. I’ve always thought to myself, WOW! I could start my own pony camp with all the stuff I’ve managed to accumulate over the years. AND It’s all SUPER NICE stuff, so I’d have the most fashionable pony camp out there by far for sure. Only problem is… I don’t have the horses or ponies to do that with! OOPS… only one small minor detail right? 😉 Since I cannot afford to collect horses, it appears that I’ve been collecting everything but the horse instead. At least the horses I am lucky enough to take care of and ride will look super cute???

Pictured above is Dakota. He is modeling one of the newest additions to my growing collection of halters. Although I have to say this was the first one I have bought in YEARS, and that was ONLY because I had a gift card to use  and I had already gotten everything else that I actually needed with it, so why not use the extra amount on another halter and lead rope?

Speaking of halters, take a look at this lovely find! I think this one would look great on Allie (he’s the tall black horse I am riding below). It is very unique. Check it out.  Union Jack Halter So what do you think of it?  Above are some more fun horse fashions. Festive in holiday greens and reds, even a super cute Santa Hat! How adorable is that? Shadow, the jumping black and white horse is looking elegant in our show gear.

Allie, above is looking just as handsome as ever in his matching baby blue and black saddle pads and boots! I also found a matching Union Jack Saddle Pad to go with the above halter. That would look striking against Allie’s shiny black coat, don’t you think?

Whether you have your own horse, just take lessons, ride for fun on friends or family horses every once and awhile, or even just on guided rides once in a blue moon; it’s fun to show some horsey fashion love to stand out from the crowd. When both you and your horse are turned out well, it just some how makes your ride that more enjoyable.

Happy Trails!!! 🙂

Keeping it Crafty at CRAFTED!

What better way to celebrate the handmade goodness of all things Etsy, than by throwing a party? Especially if you are a SoCal Lady Blogger? 😉  The other week I was invited out to CRAFTED in San Pedro, CA, for their first ever ETSY party.  Friday, August 24th was National Etsy Day, and Etsy formed meetups across the US for artist’s to come and craft together. And boy, did the crafters come out in droves for this fine occasion!! There were well over 1,000 in attendance for this milestone event.

In case you are wondering, what exactly IS CRAFTED?? CRAFTED is Southern California’s largest permanent craft marketplace, so it was the perfect venue for an event of this kind. Crafted has a 35 year lease for this space so they are not going anywhere anytime soon and are in this for the long haul. Every few months they plan on expanding in phases to become the largest permanent CRAFT venue in the United States.

So how EXACTLY can you become a vendor for this crafting extravaganza? In order to be a vendor for  CRAFTED, your goods must be substantially made by hand in the Los Angeles area. Crafters/Artists are welcome to share a space with other artists, BUT they must be there 75%  of the time. The price artist’s pay for a 10 x 10 space for one month is what they would pay for one weekend at a Renegade Art Fair festival or Unique LA?? That’s a GREAT deal!!

They have EVERY kind of craft you can possibly imagine and it’s impossible to list all of these amazing artists in one post. Ranging from paintings, wood crafts, metal crafts, plant crafts, to jewelry, clothes, coffee, cookies, pies, jams & jellies, scrapbooking and other paper crafts, the list goes on and on of all the wonderful finds you will see at Crafted!! You are guaranteed to walk away with something unique that no one else will have.

One of our favorite booths we found is called It’s Me Mary. We got some really beautiful bracelets from her in our gifts bags. Of course our Mary had to get a pic with the other Mary!!! 😉 We also had a lot of fun over at Hydrangea Hippo, who does a lot of paper crafts and scrapbooking. Mary and I made a super cute mask craft.

Other events of the night that one could partake in included craft stations throughout CRAFTED in which you could make either for free or for a small fee. You could decorate a jar to put messages or ideas in, do your nails at the nail bar, make masks, pop-up cards, wood-crafts, and much more!  Can you tell what one of the 1st things us SoCal Lady Bloggers decided on doing by the picture below? YEP! We all did our nails in bright, sparkly, vibrant colors. Of course we also had to leave our mark that the SoCal Lady Bloggers had been there. 😉 Celebrity Crafter Mark Montano from “The Big ASS book of Crafts” was also in attendance.

FINAL THOUGHTS OF THE NIGHT: Crafted is a GREAT place to shop and to support local Los Angeles Artisans. It’s a great hang out spot to craft and meet other like-minded crafters. They have fun food trucks and drinks outside (they also had live music this night) that you can grab a tasty treat from. It truly was a fun way to spend a Friday evening.

WHEN can YOU go to CRAFTED??

CRAFTED is open every weekend of the year

Disclosure: I was invited out to the Etsy party by the CRAFTED Etsy Team. I was given a whole lot of swag and we had a  marvolous night out of crafting fun. All opinions stated above are my own and  I will be back again in the near future.
