The Mustang & Return to Freedom

The Mustang & Return to Freedom

By Erin

*I attended a screening and visited Return to Freedom as media for purposes of this post. All thoughts and opinions remain my own*

Last week thanks to Focus Features, I had the opportunity to see The Mustang and learn first-hand how Return to Freedom is helping to save and protect wild horses and mustangs. The young female filmmaker, Laure de Clermont-Tonnerre first unleashed The Mustang at Sundance 2019. Now audiences across the nation can see what all the fuss is about. You may have seen other films about the bond between humans and horses, but none like this one. It will tug at your heartstrings and have you feeling all the emotions right along with Roman and Marcus.

About the Film:

Roman (Matthias Schoenaerts), a violent convict in a rural Nevada prison who struggles to escape his violent past, is required to participate in an “outdoor maintenance” program as part of his state-mandated social rehabilitation. Spotted by a no-nonsense veteran trainer (Bruce Dern) and helped by an outgoing fellow inmate and trick rider (Jason Mitchell), Roman is accepted into the selective wild horse training section of the program, where he finds his own humanity in gentling an especially unbreakable mustang.

Return To Freedom

We also had the amazing opportunity to meet the folks behind Return to Freedom and the mustangs who live here. Return to Freedom provides a safe haven to about 400 wild horses and 29 burros. With ongoing federal roundups, the sanctuary fills a very important need to meet the immediate needs of rescue and sanctuary for wild horses and burros. It is also a very important venue to educate the public about America’s wild horses and burros along with solutions to protect them in viable free ranging herds for future generations.

Return to Freedom is dedicated to preserving the freedom, diversity, and habitat of America’s wild horses through advocacy, sanctuary, education, and conservation, while enriching the human spirit through direct experience with the natural world.

KoLa ( formerly known as Viggo). Born at RTF’s wild horse sanctuary in the Hart Mountain Herd. You can see him in The Mustang!

They are pioneering the way with innovative alternatives to standard wild horse management that can be applied on the range and advocates for viable solutions to prevent the removal of wild horses from their natural rangelands.

Located on 1500 acres on the Central Coast of California, as natural an environment as possible is provided for the herds to maintain the natural behaviors and social structures they knew in the wild.

Spirit who was used as inspiration & a model for DreamWorks Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron also lives at Return to Freedom.

I love that their first priority is to keep wild horses in their original family bands or naturally selected social groups, to provide for their emotional well being as well as their physical care. Wild horses are herd animals and within this herd structure, bonds are formed and education is taking place all the time. In the wild, the herd ensures survival.

If you ever get the opportunity to visit Return to Freedom, do it! Be sure to check out their website to see how you can go visit the mustangs or go on one of the safaris to see these amazing creatures running free in their natural environment! It is an amazing experience you will NEVER forget!

Kavallerie Gel Half Pad Review & Giveaway!

Reviewing the Kavallerie Gel Half Pad & Giveaway!

By Erin

*We were sent these half pads for review purposes for this post. All thoughts and opinions remain our own.*

Recently my friend Sarah from Equine Racers and I were sent some awesome Kavallerie Gel Half Pads to try and we are loving them. I used mine with an English saddle. One of the first things I noticed about it was the ventilation throughout the pad which helps keep your horse cool. It is a very durable and flexible pad that is also very sticky and has a wonderful shock absorbing quality to it. It is the most comfortable gel pad that I’ve ever tried that will not slip as it stayed in place during my rides with it. Big seemed very comfortable in it too. The pad is very easy to keep clean, store, & use on a daily basis, I will be using this saddle pad often!

Sarah tried the orginal Kavallerie Gel Half Pad with her dressage saddle on three different horses that all differ in size and shape. First thing she noticed were all the ventilation holes thorough out the entire pad as well as how durable and flexible it is. She really liked the fact that it stayed perfectly in place during her entire ride, it never once shifted or bunched up as some pads tend to do, even when you are working on lateral movements. During her rides she also noticed a slight air ride feel, almost as if there were some sort of seat shock absorber. Her horses all seemed very happy and comfortable in it and she noticed it tended to help fill in some gaps from a less then perfectly fitted saddle. Sarah and her horses give the pad two hooves up.

Kavallerie also offers a Front riser, Middle riser, & Rear riser for your custom needs. If you would like one of these for yourself, Sarah and I are giving away TWO of these saddle pads to two lucky equestrian pals. Just follow this link here and head on over to INSTAGRAM to see how to enter! Make sure to follow all three steps and there are a couple BONUS entries too! 🙂

Why else should you try one of these pads?

PREVENTING A SORE BACK:

Your horse’s back is essential to his performance. The most common cause of back pain is ill-fitting tack. The Kavallerie Gel Pad is like “melted-butter” adapting to the shape of the saddle and the horse’s back, providing soft cushioning to help prevent a sore back. The shock absorbing design of the pad can distribute the pressure, providing ultimate comfort for you and your horse.

STABILIZE YOUR SADDLE:

The non-slip and low profile gel pad keeps your saddle in place even with high withered horses. It stabilizes your saddle which gives you the confidence that your horse won’t get hurt during your ride.

FIX SADDLE BRIDGING:

There are 4 anatomically designed gel pads to suit your specific needs and fix saddle bridging. Middle riser for dipped/ swayback horses associated with genetics or horse muscle atrophies. Front riser for horses with underdeveloped & high withers. Rear riser for a horse with weak back. The anatomic shape of the pad helps support the saddle during any movements.

ENHANCED RIDING EXPERIENCES:

Kavallerie Gel Saddle Pad is like an instant upgrade to any saddle. As a rider, you will feel closer, better contact but more supported. On top of that, your horse will have more energy, feel much happier and engaged. Everyone in the barn will ask you where you got it from.

EASY TO CLEAN AND VERY DURABLE:

Made from proprietary material called ReiterGel™ for durability and easy cleaning. Simply hose off any dirt after use and you are ready to go. Every pad comes with an extended 90 Day Money Back Guarantee.

Make sure to head on over to INSTAGRAM to ENTER the GIVEAWAY! ENDS 10/17/17 at 11:59PM PST! GOOD-LUCK!

Cavalia’s Odysseo

By Erin

Cavalias-Odysseo-Orange-County-Irvine

The other weekend I had the opportunity to cover Cavalia’s Odysseo under the White Big Top as media, along with three of my most horse crazy friends. Boy, Oh boy were we all in for a treat! We were so close to the stage, front row to be exact, so we couldn’t get any closer unless we were going to be part of the show. As tempting as that thought was, we decided against that, and just watched, but not without constantly picking out which horses we wish we could be riding in the show as they’d prance on by during each act! 😉

Cavalia Horses

Featuring 65 beautiful horses and 48 riders, amazing acrobats and aerialists, musicians playing live music from around the globe to celebrate the bond between man (or woman) and horse. The best part of all is that they announced that tickets to this amazing show are being extended for shows through March 13th!

Cavalia Acrobats

No amount of words can truly describe the beauty of this show, you have to experience it for yourself. I will just share with you some of my favorite parts of the show to try to capture a fraction of the awesomeness that is to behold when you see it in person in all its glory.

Odysseo Horse Hugs

In an enchanted forest, the horses roam freely while the sun is setting. The horses perform a beautiful liberty routine with their trainer, who you can tell they have a very special bond with her. My favorite part is the scene above, when they come together for one big horsey hug!
