American Style

There’s a new horse at the barn, and he’s a pretty special guy. Narrowly escaping death as the decision to put him down had been made for the next day as there was no solid interest in him, due to him needing an expensive surgery ($3850) to fix a right hind fractured fetlock followed by 5 months of layup. Luckily for this special guy, American StyleThe Dolly Green Foundation donated funds for his surgery and After the Finish Line will be funding his lay up cost for 5 months! He is now with us at Equine Racers for his layup and aftercare from his surgery and for re-training to find a forever home once he’s cleared to start work again. Isn’t he a doll? Just look at that face!

American Style

American Style is a 2011 Thoroughbred Gelding standing at 16.3 hands high. He was unplaced in 4 starts during his racing career. This incredibly well bred son of Papa Clem out of a Swiss Yodeler mare has major sporthorse and class breeding. American Style retired from racing due to a right hind fractured fetlock. He is looking to start another career as a dressage or as a hunter/jumper horse once he is sound again, hopefully this summer. His prognosis is very good for a full recovery after his surgery.

This boy is such a sweetheart. Extra money is still needed though for his routine vet care, farrier, and extra feed for him! If you would like to donate you may via PayPal to equineracers@aol.com subject American Style, all donations are tax deductible!

American StyleMy first visit with American Style. He was so curious, he couldn’t stand still long enough for me to get a clear shot of him! He wanted to leave his stall to go check out everything. Silly guy, but oh so sweet!

A Day at the Races: The Breeders’ Cup Classic 2014

A Day at the Races: The Breeders Cup Classic 2014

By Erin

This past weekend, was a pretty exciting one with the Breeders’ Cup in town. The gates swung open for the start of the $5 million Breeders’ Cup Classic late Saturday afternoon at Santa Anita Park, in sunny California. Bayern, bolted out of the seven spot in the gate, took a hard left and bumped into the favorite, Shared Belief, and the 14-horse field quickly became a scene that has caused much chaos and discussion over whether or not Bayern should have been disqualified or not. I personally don’t think he should be DQ’d as these are animals, not machines, one cannot control their first few strides out of the gate. Here are just a few exciting photos from the afternoon at Santa Anita!

Breeders Cup Bayern

Bayern, at 6-1 odds, warming up before the big race.

For Bayern, it was of the upmost importance to break to the front, where he was able to use his speed from the start. When he is able to break to the front, that is when he wins his races.

Breeders Cup California Chrome

California Chrome, getting ready for the race.

California Chrome ran his heart out, but it just wasn’t quiet enough. He finished third, by two heads. Bayern’s and Toast of New York’s.

How they ultimately ended up placing, Bayern (red), Toast of New York (blue), & California Chrome (black/purple).

Bayern was able to hold California Chrome and Toast of New York off as they ran down the stretch to give the Hall of Fame trainer Bob Baffert his first Classic victory. The winning time from Bayern was 1 minute 59.88 seconds.

A Day at the Races at Santa Anita Park

By: Erin

Disclosure:  I was invited out to Santa Anita Park by America’s Best Racing to experience a fun day of horse racing on opening day of the fall meet.  I received lunch and a gift bag.  All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Santa Anita Park is a beautiful race track in Southern California and the stands are packed with young and enthusiastic fans. Host of the Breeders Cup every November, I had the wonderful opportunity  not too long ago to spend a day at the track in Santa Anita to celebrate the opening day of the fall meet. Being the horse crazy gal that I am, I could not pass a chance up of spending a day with some amazing and powerful horses. I spend a lot of time with these guys after their racing days are over, but don’t get to see them in action as often as I would like during their racing careers.

Average crowds of over 50,000 come to be seen at events at race tracks all over the country. It’s not just about the sport, it’s a lifestyle. Folks will dress to the nines for the occasion with the latest fashions. Friends enjoy the afternoon together while making some new ones along the way. You can enjoy a drink and a nice meal while cheering on the horses and making memories to last a lifetime. Making a winning bet on some of the finest horses in America will have you floating on cloud 9, even if you only win a dollar or two.

Here is a little peek into our special day at the track!

Santa Anita Park New Look

The newly remodeled Santa Anita has a fresh new look inside in their bar and food court area. Very snazzy! Cheers! Just so you know, they make the BEST Mai Tai’s here! 😉 We all had them. I’d say it’s safe to say, that it was the drink of the day. There food was wonderful as well. I had a pasta bowl, and it was delicious.
