There’s a gorgeous new horse at the barn. We don’t know much about him, but he sure is a sweet, kind-hearted guy. From what we can gather, he’s about 8-9 years old and a Quarter Horse (NOT a Thoroughbred!), but that’s about it. We have no clue what his registered name is or what his racing history is as we cannot figure out what his tattoo that all racing horses have, is. Hours have been spent trying to figure it out to no avail. He has been named Parker. You will also notice that he is a GREY horse and not a BAY (brown with a black mane and tail), like most of the horses that get taken in are. 😉 This boy isn’t up for adoption yet, so he will be here for a little while longer. For some that are up for adoption, check out Equine Racers, which is the 501C3 Registered Non Profit Horse Rescue Organization I help out at with my friend Sarah who runs it, and that most of these horses I post about are from. I hope you enjoy this mysterious beast as much as I have so far! 🙂
Summertime with the Horses and an American Style Update
One reason I love the summer so much, is because it means I can spend more time at the barn with the horses. It’s also been awhile since I’ve been able to give an update on all the boys, so I thought I’d take a minute and let you all know how everyone is doing. 🙂
If you remember American Style, from back in February, he had retired from racing with a left hind Condylar fracture, and had surgery performed on January 23rd, 2015. He has recovered nicely and is ready to start-up training to become a riding horse.
Styles ready to start his training!
Styles working in the side reins working on some ground work before his first ride.
Styles 1st ride!
Styles did amazing on his first ride with Sarah! He doesn’t steer very well yet, but that’s to be expected with such a green horse with no training yet. He stood so still while Sarah mounted to get on him, and he looks like he flexes and bends well. It will be exciting to watch him as he starts to learn to jump. He has started to go over ground-poles so far!
It’s been awhile since I’ve posted a horsey update on the horses, so heres the lowdown on what’s going on with the boys at the barn.
Some very lucky horses: Big & Moby have found horsey heaven at a barn in Los Angeles County, that they very gladly now call home. They are living the life and enjoying every second of it. What do you think? 😉 They look pretty happy if you ask me! They moved barns (only about a mile from the old place) on December 1st, 2013. They have settled into the new place nicely.
Plenty of turn out time with good friends, tons of food to munch on, a very beautiful arena to ride in and learn how to jump in (Go Moby!), and tons of love and pets from everyone around. Moby is a very green baby who is just starting to learn how to jump after his racing career ended on the track. He is super cute to watch though! Look at him go with Sarah on board. =) Be sure to check out Equine Racers, there are some awesome ex-race horses listed there that need homes too.
Big & Moby having some play-time together. They are best buds! Awwwww…
Aren’t Big & Moby just the handsomest guys ever?
Moby being a nosey baby, wanting to know what’s going on. I see you, he says! Pay attention to me! 😉
